IFCA News Letter #57
Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:21 pm by VVV GTDon

Hello and welcome back to the sometimes forgettable, but always interesting IFCA weekly Newsletter!

This special edition comes on the heels of the surprise departure of one of the long time supporters, racers, and key organizers of the IFCA. VVV Chilledheat has cleared out his IFCA desk, said his goodbyes, and is headed back into the Forza ether from whence he came.

A mix of sadness and gladness has come over the IFCA encampment over this change. Sad that we will be losing a fan favorite and integral part of our organization, but glad also that a friend of ours is moving onto happier "hunting grounds" in the more private sector of Forza living. We wish Ashley (VVV Chilledheat) the very best, and profusely thank him for all of his efforts during his stay here.

Unbeknown to most of you, the IFCA is a jealous task master, and can easily suck the life (and fun) right out of you if you don't stand your ground so to speak. At first she is an alluring mistress full of potential, but the closer you come to her, the deeper she sucks you in, and before you know it, the harder it becomes to find your way out, until in the end, you are completely burned out from her constant incessant demands. Let this be a warning to all who come after Ashley, this is no easy gig.

As for the specifics of exactly why Ashley needed to break away; it comes down to the simple need for a more balanced perspective, and a return to less responsible fun in his free time. And who could blame him?

When you come on board to the IFCA staff, be prepared to lose some of your driving skills, and race time too. VVV Chilledheat was a top 10 driver in Forza1, and was probably the only top 10 driver who lost his ranking as Forza2 came on-line. His IFCA World Ranking is currently 26th, and he would suggest it is actually much lower, which is to further suggest he is far from his former expertise as a sim-driver. There can be only one reason for this slide, and it is related to the countless hours put into the IFCA rather than actual racing.

Today's competition is such that one must have time to practice constantly if you want to be at or near the top. Forza2 being more diverse and a larger game than Forza1, requires even more practice for specific events.

VVV Chilledheat is an elite sim-driver understand, who has won FWC5, SpecForza 6 and 7, SpecRacing 2, and was runner up 4 times in these very tough competitions! Half of this was done WHILE spending most of his time organizing the IFCA. We shutter at the possibilities had he been allowed to focus all of his time and energy on only competing.

We all look forward to VVV Chilledheat returning to his former glory and greatness in the future. And if you are very lucky, you might have the privilege of one day following his fading tail lights around a track as they disappear beyond the next turn.

See you at the track Champ!

FWC11 semi-final and final took place this past week. The 2 finalist, 9th ranked in the world AMG JED, faced 2-time defending champion 29th ranked in the world AMG CruzCntrol. With the potential to do something never done in the 4 year history of the FWC series, (to win three titles in a row), AMG CruzCntrol was pumped to do his best. Both drivers were in a Shelby Series 1 A-771 at Suzuka East, and even though AMG JED bested the champ in the semi-final round at Sebring, it was not to be at Suzuka. Congratulations to "Mr. FWC", AMG CruzCntrol!!!

IFCA Stock Car series is a week from this Friday, sponsored by "Mobile Gamer LLC" who is offering an XBL Gold membership or 4000 MS points! Be sure to get your "Mobile Gamer" sponsor logo if you want to win the cash! If you are in need of an authentic NASCAR livery, contact VVV GTDon who has some spectacular clones made by FTW AintRite69.

IFCA JGTC is ramping up soon too, go here to check out the details!

In the world of real racing: F1, Last season McLaren found themselves battling on two fronts. But with the courtroom dramas long since decided, this season the British team have been free to focus solely on their racing. And with Lewis Hamilton currently leading the drivers’ standings, so far things are looking up. The Ferrari's of Massa, and Raikkonen, are second and third respectively.

In NASCAR: What's with all the fuss? You'd think that Carl Edwards had taken a tire iron to Kyle Busch's front bumper, or keyed the side of his No. 18 Toyota. You'd think he had done something dastardly, the equivalent of beaning a batter in the helmet or hitting a quarterback after the whistle. Busch was upset. Busch's fans were upset. Some of Edwards' fans were embarrassed. There was talk of payback, and warnings that you reap what you sow. It was as if an episode of The Sopranos had unfolded at Bristol Motor Speedway, and everyone had a vendetta they wanted to unleash on somebody else.

And over what, exactly? A completely legal and expertly executed move on the racetrack, that's what. Every time somebody wins using the bump-and-run, there's an uproar. Drivers get angry. Fans get angry. Harsh words, old memories and veiled threats are bandied about. Amid all the noise and recrimination, nobody seems willing to appreciate the move for what it is -- a fundamental tactic of short-track racing that, when done correctly, is as devastatingly effective as the deep post route or the 3-point shot.

Enough of the outrage already. Jeff Gordon did it to beat Rusty Wallace, Dale Earnhardt did it to beat Terry Labonte, Jeremy Mayfield did it to beat Earnhardt, and list goes on and on and on. Over the years we've seen different incarnations, like Busch banging the back of Jimmie Johnson's car on the restart before his shootout victory in July at Chicagoland, or Gordon giving Johnson a few good shots in his unsuccessful attempt to get by at Martinsville last year. It's not cheating, it's not dirty, it's not out of line. It's more difficult than it used to be, given the matched bumpers on the new car. And it's a completely legal way to win a race, despite the fact that it's been bastardized by unwritten rules and partisanship. Still, before you get any ideas, you better not try this in any IFCA event! We do have rules against this, and run a much cleaner ship.

MotoGP: With 50 points separating the top two in the MotoGP premier class, the World Championship heads to Misano for the Gran Premio Cinzano di San Marino e della Riviera di Rimini (now there's a mouth full!) with the stakes raised for the leading set. Sunday´s race promises to be one of the most crucial Grand Prix events for the title picture in a year of twists and turns so far.

Misano is truly a home track for series leader Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi, who has a number of objectives for round thirteen. Aside from extending his advantage in the standings over rival Ducati rider Casey Stoner, the Italian has the opportunity to equal Giacomo Agostini´s record of 68 premier class victories. Agostini, regarded by many as the greatest rider of all time, is likely to be in attendance to watch what could be an historic occasion. The circuit is one of only two on the World Championship calendar at which Rossi has never taken victory, although he has only had one chance to do so. The other track is Indianapolis, coincidentally next up on the MotoGP schedule.

That's it for this week people. Rubbin's racin, but don't you dare lean on me! lol
