Outside Events

Post by GTDon2 on Tue Oct 02, 2012 11:31 am

It is here that we will begin to populate various series and events from outside the IFCA. Other leagues and organized events that desire to have their drivers internationally rated by the IFCA Ratings Computer will be posting their information and results here.

Just want to welcome all the outside leagues to the humble estate of the IFCA. Just to let you know, the IFCA has been around since the end of Forza 1. We've had an up and down relationship with T10 over the years too. A big "up" was when I co-authored the Official FM3 Game Guide by "Prima Games" and Microsoft. It was a huge project that had its own ups and downs believe me. lol

Our long time desire here is to somehow bring all of the racing leagues and league drivers together so that there is the possibility of a uniform championship in the future. The idea is to create a standard measuring stick to measure everyone regardless of where they race, or what kind of format they race in. Once everyone's skill is measured, a proper course can be taken toward an actual Forza championship.

Our "measuring stick" is the IFCA Computer Ratings program. It accuratly measures your relative skill against those you race against, by comparing where you are predicted to finish, to where you actually finished, in a given group. If you are predicted (based on your rating) to finish #1 out of 16 drivers, but you only finish 2nd, your rating will go slightly down depending on how strong of a rating the driver who won had. If he's close to your rating, you won't lose many ratings points, but if he is a lot lower rated, then you will take a bigger hit on points.

Our ratings program was successfully used last year. This year we've made some minor adjustments to produce an even more accurate rating than before. For example, the most points you can lose if you lag out and finish dead last is 5% of your current rating, whereas last year you could lose 10%. This way there isn't as much of a penalty for an unlucky result, and faster drivers won't have an artificially low rating.

Our fiscal year begins Nov 1st, and it is at that time that we will start to rate league races. Initially many of the ratings for new people will only be an approximation. The computer has to have a estimated starting point for each driver for it to be able to make the calculation. This means that it will take about 4-6 races before the true rating begins to settle in.

For a race to be rated, it has to have at least 7 drivers, and you have to post it on your designated thread. In turn I will reply to your post with the ratings results for your specific race. All results will then be logged in on the big board over here: http://ifca.highforum.net/f269-2013-ifca-championship-ratings-list

Again thanks for your solidarity and promotion of organized Forza simulated racing.
