Continental Tire Series

Post by GTDon2 on Mon Aug 31, 2015 10:51 pm

Back by popular demand and due to the flexibility and wide range of car availability, the IFCA Continental Tire Series will return as a replica series.  It will replicate the real series in as many applicable ways as Forza 6 will allow with 2 classes (GS and ST) spec'd out just like the real cars.

The Continental Tire Challenge has a long lineage dating back to IMSA in 1985. Under GRAND-AM Road Racing sanction, the series grew into North America’s premier series for the types of cars fans drive every day, not all that surprising with car counts regularly exceeding 60 cars, and an eclectic mix of professional drivers, and accomplished Pro-Am drivers.

The Continental Tire Challenge is made up of two classes. The Grand Sport (GS) class features a rules package allowing American cars like the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro to battle head-to-head with exotic international machines such as the Porsche 911, BMW M3 and Nissan 370Z. GS cars are tuned to produce between 350 and 405 horsepower, with speeds in excess of 160 mph.

The smaller Street Tuner (ST) class is IMSA’s offering to the import and compact car crowd, with the Honda Civic Si, Mazda MX-5, BMW 128i, Nissan Altima and Porsche Cayman, among many other eligible models. ST cars, limited to four- and six-cylinder engines, produce between 170 and 240 horsepower. The top speed for ST cars is about 135 mph.

With the addition of rain racing and night racing, and a special handicap points system that will offer risk/reward equality between the very fast and the average driver, high quality clean racing will be the expectation of each round of racing.

Of course the one traditional element unique to this series will remain, and that is no microphones allowed just like the real racing.  You can go to a party and chat, but there will be no communication between drivers.  This offers a more realistic experience unique to the IFCA and this particular series.

More details will be coming, and we will need testers.

Don I think it would be cool to allow team entries and then let the 2 drivers change with each other between classes as they see fit?

is this a possibility or are the rules already set?

Nothing is quite set in stone just yet, but the idea here is to replicate the real series to some degree.  Even so, different variations on driving duties, swapping cars and drivers, etc, will be considered. We have to wait and see what is possible with the new game first.

My only request about rules is to eliminate the time compensation or adjusment for FWD - RWD - AWD.

Once race starts draft afects the speed of the car that was in "disadvantage" and of course is not just about hot lap.

That's why I favor a points handicap on top of tuning and testing too.  Rolling starts can help too. Need some test pilots out there of all sorts, but also have to have some top testers too, faster the better.

One of the fun rules with any replica race series is running authentic series liveries.  As part of the Team MOPAR gang, I will no doubt be fielding this car and paint in the series...

FYI, ALL MAX RPM our resident pro painter is providing IFCA logo's and stuff on his storefront (or wherever FM6 has that).  Official IFCA liveries in FM6 events will require the www.IFCAracing.com logo on all cars.  Thanks MAX!

Re: Continental Tire Series

Okay, a little bit of a problem here.  There are few if any base model cars to replicate the series. Almost all the late model Mustangs and Camaro's are too powerful.  The Dodge Challenger only comes in the Hellcat version, and there are no Porsches to speak of.  So I think we will have to wait for the right cars.  In the mean time we could go up a notch and use these more powerful models a Trans Am replica series.  Much easier to do, and the format is similar with 2 classes.

Sounds like a plan. In theory you could probably use the builds from Forza 4 if you still have them?

Even they wouldn't work that well, the only solution I can see which will create fairly equal cars is to go up in performance.  The actual Trans Am cars from the modern day Trans Am series will work.

(BTW, I'm unable to connect to multiplayer even though my test says everything is fine.  Anyone else have a problem?)

Dunno about servers, I was racing online this morning and it seemed fine, maybe there fixing something to stop certain cars being used in the League races.

Well there's a 3 page thread over at T10 with people who can't do multiplayer lobbies at all, and T10 hasn't said a word.  People are pissed!

The continental Tire Series is fun to watch live.

I went to Mazda Laguna Seca track twice in the last 3 years and enjoyed wandering around between the infield and the "Corkscrew".

There were about 30 cars in each of the GT and ST classes on the track at the same time, which caused quite a few "Cautions".
Those GT cars are really loud.

Here I am with 3 friends at Mazda Laguna Seca.  lol!
