2018 IFCA Runoffs!

Post by GTDon2 on Wed Dec 27, 2017 3:16 am

We are happy to announce we are attempting to organize and mimic the SCCA Runoffs this year.  The SCCA has 28 classes of cars, but The IFCA will only have 20.  The most recent SCCA Runoffs were held at the Indianapolis Grand Prix Circuit and we shall do the same.  It will be a 3 day event, Fri-Sun.  The dates are not yet set but it looks like some time in March.

You will be allowed to join up to 3 classes each day, however, different car classes will be combined into pairs to help fill grids, with the same start times.  So if there are 6 classes that day and you want to race 3 times, you will have to select 3 different designated start times. Obviously, you can't be in two cars at the same time.  Start times will be separated by 2 hour intervals.

Each class will have a minimum 6 driver requirement to be scheduled.  The first come first serve method means the first 6 drivers to join a class will not have to qualify to gain a spot on the grid. Everyone else will have to qualify just to sign up.  They will have to come to within 2% of what is considered a competitive lap time in each class.  You'll get 5 laps to qualify. So early bird gets the worm! Be one of the first 6 to sign up and you're in!

At 26 laps per race and 2 pit stops, there will be no need to qualify for the race itself. It will be sufficiently long enough (about 45min) to use a random standing start grid order.

Keep your eye open here for more information on this in the days to come.  We will announce when you can sign-up to avoid having to qualify for your favorite class very soon...

Class and Cars for the IFCA Runoff

Post by GTDon2 on Wed Dec 27, 2017 4:42 pm

Over the next couple of weeks we will be revealing the car selections for each class.  Each Class will have a limited number of cars to pick from.  Each car will have a specific build and available tune as well.

We wanted to make it as easy and as simple as possible to pick a car.  Rather than having gobs of cars based on an open build, where selecting an uncompetitive car is a real worry, we have a limited number of pre-built, tuned, and tested cars of equal performance.  All you have to do is drive them.

Below is the reveal list of cars in each class (so far), eventually we will reveal the specific P.I. and build sheets just prior to opening up for sign-ups.  So keep checking back here every day to see which class and car you like.

If a car category is designated "Production" it means production based cars regardless of the type of build.  If it says "Class" it means they are full on race cars regardless of the build.

Friday (Date not determined)

6:00pm EST, S-Production Touring. These are practically race cars but in production form and have full builds and downforce.  Similar to a Trans Am 2 class car. S-Production Touring will run with R-Class Grand Touring.

Re: 2018 IFCA Runoffs!

Post by GTDon2 on Thu Dec 28, 2017 3:16 pm

Updated 21 classes with 88 cars to pick from with testing help from Kevin and SP33D RAC3R. Or about 4 cars per class to choose from.  The P.I. will be next to reveal as testing begins, and then we will have a separate thread for the build sheets of each car so keep checking back

Your limiting factor is you may only enter 3 races each day. Makes it tough to decide when there are 2 different classes that race at the same time.

Again, it takes 6 drivers to enter a specific class for that class to be officially slotted to race on the calendar.  So if you like a certain class that isn't getting enough sign-ups, it behooves you to help recruit drivers to fill the grid or the race will not take place.

Once 6 drivers have signed up and indicated which car they will drive, anyone else must qualify in to sign up by being within at least 2% of a competitive lap which is usually somewhere around 1.5sec depending on the class.

Stay tuned...

Details

Post by GTDon2 on Fri Jan 05, 2018 2:00 pm

The cars we have built and tested are specific builds that you must duplicate.  They have all been built with the idea of trying to retain the basic character of each car and still be equal within its class.  So that when you drive a Honda, it still feels like a Honda and not like a Ferrari for example.  There are no extreme builds here with engine swaps or drive train swaps.  All of the cars were built toward best handling when possible and not speed.

A competitive lap time is listed for each class, and is 1 tenth slower than the tested lap time. The minimum qualifying time is 2% slower than a competitive lap time. Faster drivers will be able to turn a faster lap than the tested lap time.  The tested lap times are with minimal tuning and are considered above average times, but not alien times.  Average drivers should be able to match the times we have posted.

If you are not one of the first 6 to signup for a certain class, there will only be 6 additional openings available in each class via qualifying.  The 6 fastest qualifiers will grab the remaining positions.  Those who must qualify to get in must be at least as fast as the posted minimum qualifying lap time.  The reason for this is because each lobby will have a maximum 24 drivers split into 2 classes of 12 each. You'll need at least 6 drivers per class for the race to happen.  *But the first 6 to sign up when the signups are open don't have to qualify in.

It benefits those who signup first to recruit others to signup so that their race will take place. Remember you only need 6 drivers for the race to be official.  Keep in mind that in order to win the 2018 IFCA Runoff's you must accumulate the most podium points. 1st place is worth 3points, 2nd is worth 2points, and 3rd is worth 1point.  You are allowed to signup for 3 races per day during the 3 day event.  That's 9 races total, or a chance to win a maximum of 27 podium points.  If there is a tie, your calculated IFCA rating will break the tie.

We are almost ready to post the actual builds, which will take some time as we are approaching 100 cars.  After the builds have been posted we will announce the date of the event. Also you will be able to download the shared tunes from GTDon2 or by searching "IFCA"

After we announce the date or weekend that this event will happen, we will announce when signups will be open.  The first 6 to signup in any class avoid qualifying to get in.

Testing is now complete. 21 classes and 100 cars to pick from.  Cars are listed from highest P.I. to lowest.  It will still take some time to post each and every build, but expect that to be completed this week so keep checking in at the IFCA.

Signup open date, Friday 1-26-18

Post by GTDon2 on Fri Jan 12, 2018 10:36 pm

Now that all 100 car builds have been posted and are shared via GTDon2 or a search of "IFCA" we have to announce when signups will open.

Friday, Jan 26th is the earliest moment you can signup.

Early bird lucky 6 special: The first 6 drivers in any class to signup will NOT be forced to qualify into the meet on March 9th-11th.

There is a 12 driver limit per class, except with the S-Production Caterhams & Donkervorts class at 7pm Saturday, which will be limited to 24 drivers.

So, if you are not one of the early bird lucky 6, you will be forced to qualify for the remaining 6 grid places.

Each class has a minimum qualifying time you must meet or beat. Only the fastest 6 qualy-men will earn a grid position.  If you have to qualify you will get 1 attempt of 5 laps.  I will be available to qualify anyone almost every evening leading up to the day of the meet. Qualifying will end March 8th Thursday night.

*Other than the title "IFCA Runoff's Champion," there is a prize on the line.  I have 1 remaining $20.00 Subway ticket to give away to the eventual Champion! To be the Champion you simply have to collect the most podium points. BUT, you may only enter 3 races per each day. A win is worth 3 podium points, 2nd is worth 2 points, and 3rd is worth 1 point. The most possible points one driver can earn is 27 points.  If there is a tie, the tie will be broken by whoever has the higher IFCA rating.

When you signup please indicate what class and car you are signing up for.  I will have a separate signup thread and race format thread, but you can indicate your intent anywhere on the IFCA site, or at the SimR site on Friday Jan 26th.

Early bird gets the worm!

Race format

Post by GTDon2 on Sat Jan 13, 2018 4:59 pm

Very simple.  Each race must start within 15min of the actual start time without exception.

Track set to Indianapolis GP, standing start, lobby grid set to P.I., 2 pit stops, 26laps, default collisions, tire damage, no end timer, no cautions, 1 restart if there is lag or multi-car contact/collisions on the first lap.

There is no qualifying right before the race.  Pre-qualifying is just to secure a grid spot and not a grid position because the grid will be semi-random based on P.I. because two classes will be racing at the same time.

All we need for results are the podium finishers.

Drivers are limited to 3 races per day.
