2018 IFCA Runoffs Results!

Post by GTDon2 on Mon Mar 12, 2018 6:53 pm

As those of you who participated will attest this was far more grueling an effort than it appeared on paper. With 21 classes, 100 cars, and multiple start times over the course of 3 days, 'overly ambitious' comes to mind as the worst you can say about the IFCA Runoffs.

On the plus side, the cars were judged by the drivers as being mostly spot on in their BOP, allowing for a wide range of favorite cars to be used that are not normally seen in league racing.  This equality produced cars that were pick-up and play/race with the help of specific builds/shared tunes.  We saw drivers without any practice at all jump in their preferred car and compete equally without feeling as though they were in a dog that had no chance as is the case with so many open build formats.  Almost every race ended up close all the way to the finish which is just the kind of racing you really want.  We had almost no racing incidents the entire weekend which is rare for such close racing.  Everyone should be applauded for sticking to the gentleman's way of racing which is a hallmark of the IFCA.

Though we saw a lot of very fast guys show up, this event was designed more for the slower driver.  With so many races offered but with a limit of 3 per day per driver, we knew that not all of the fast guys were probably going to be able to race 3 times each day thus giving slower guys that could, a chance to collect more podium points by the sheer volume of races raced.  However, if any one fast guy did max out his schedule, they would be hard to beat no doubt, and that's what happened.  sameole24, who has been a multi-time champion at SimR and the IFCA, has added yet another feather to his championship cap, and is our Official 2018 IFCA Runoff's Champion!  Though he did not win every race he entered, he managed to win enough podium points to bury the competition. It took him until day 3 Sunday to secure the championship, while guys like R2P Volcano, DJProfessor, and GTDon continued to put the pressure on.

Second place went to GTDon2 who has a long history of runner-up finishes in the IFCA FWC's, --the more things change, the more some things stay the same.  Third place went to hard-charging R2P Volcano, despite not driving any races in the first round.

Congrats to our new Runoff's Champion sameole24! Due to the exhausting nature of this event, it is uncertain that there will be another in the foreseeable future, however, we did learn a lot about what works and what doesn't.  It would seem that drivers liked the variety of cars, but were a little overwhelmed by the number of different start times.  Perhaps in the future we will slim the schedule down for better management.  Until then, it was great racing with you all, and we hope to see you at the track soon.
