Have you talked with Sirkane? I know it sucks when your partner isn't around, but we almost always fill the open seats. You should continue if only for the experience and support.

Out of curiosity and theory, I ran the Audi at VIR and sure enough, this is an Audi track! I used full downforce and ran about 10 laps.  It could use a slight gearing tune, but, I just broke the track lap record with it, beating my Hellcat time by a tenth!  And it wasn't what I would call a flawless lap either.  I'm going to have to work hard to beat that 1:53.735 in my Hellcat.  So yeah, would be a shame to see you quit before you ran the Audi's best track of the season.  You can run my Audi ghost on Rivals.

Question. I'm always learning about tuning. If you want more straight line speed. Do you adjust the gearing as the final drive or one of the gears? or is it a combination of gearing and downforce? or its it something else altogether?

Downforce will do the trick.  Changing the final drive helps as well, but if you like your gears then extending the final gear works too.  Sometimes the cars attitude or ride height can improve top speed too.

got it. I was thinking of extending the final gear and add more downforce. Thanks Very Happy

it's a two-edged sword however, you might think more speed is the answer but it could well be that handling is the way to go depending on the car and track

I have this problem in testing.  Some cars benefit slightly more from a handling build over a speeds build even at Daytona.

Finding the balance where the car does it all well is key. The Oak tree turn is very important onto the back straight, you must carry good speed through the exit. 1 or 2 miles an hour will mean a tenth or two slower. I also noticed that the right and left hander leading up to Oak Tree is critical as well, I found that just tapping the brake to induce turn in does the job nicely. Also be on the gas if you aren't on the brake to settle the car, even if that is at 10-20 % throttle. I should be on tonight at some time if you want to get some practice in.

The car was very good with more downforce but i did increase final gear. I got just enough before going into the roller coaster. Also I got a good run off coming out of Oak Tree.

You are correct! Even through the upper S's I carried tremendous speed. Which help me gain more time.

I haven't checked but I believe Don did that in the Audi so you're time will stand as the 2nd fastest earning you the 1/2 bonus point.

VIR Full recap:

Post by GTDon2 on Sun Oct 28, 2018 2:17 pm

An unexpected result to be sure.  VIR is well known for being a difficult track to stay on making it a track of frequent contact between cars placing it as a hairy place to race.  In this race, there was more off track accounts than contact with others.  The result was a massive effect on average lap times and a surprise ending of sorts.

Weekly bonus half point fastest test laps went to Cole and GTDon.  Cole wasn't informed he could use his corrected 1800 build until late because of late calculations of the SimR race where he dropped down into the 1800s.  Well done to him.  SPEEDY and ghost were in the hunt the whole week too.  Next week we will add a season 2 rule at Laguna Seca and offer 3 half points for the fastest 3 test lap times.  We feel that this will inspire more teams to try harder during their week of practice in the future.

GTDon once again grabbed the pole in his 1900 level Hellcat with a quick 1:54.397, and won the race outright setting a track lap record with a 1:53.035!  Team MOPAR OR NOCAR won overall finishing 1st and 2nd with a 14sec gap over team TSM's BMW M4.

It wasn't until the final 7 lap stint that Incognito and GTDon became fully aware that they were in the lead. This came as a shock to the entire field because it appeared early in the race that the Porsche 911 of team LOL Racing had a good lead.  This kind of false perception is not uncommon with this format as it has a lot to do with how consistent each team is or isn't.

It often isn't realized or judged correctly just how much time is repeatedly lost by traffic, contact, poor exchanges in the pits, and off-track incidents during the entire race.  A team that suffers none of these problems, even if marginally slower, will usually prevail in the end.  As it turned out the fastest driver GTDon, raced entirely unchallenged and free of traffic every stint making up huge ground on those that did have to battle.  His only mistake was going off turn 1 with 3 laps to go while leading his teammate by 2000 feet.  Meanwhile his teammate Incognito was able to run at the same pace as the leaders without a lot of problems.  So, team MOPAR had what was essentially and mostly a flawless race compared to the field who had a lot of going off the track moments and traffic slow downs.  Because of this, it made it seem impossible that the Hellcats should have won, but they were as fast or faster and more importantly more consistent, allowing them to take the lead in an almost unseen way due to offsetting pits stop strategy to the field.

And this is the charm of this format and why it is more important to be dead on consistent lap after lap regardless of your speed.  This is why the relay format offers the average driver/team a real chance at winning over the fast guys.  Manage your racing well, and others will have to do the same or fall short. It's more than just being super fast, it's about how to work well as a team and minimizing errors.

Hey guys, just a reminder if a faster car comes up on you later in the race and you are not racing them for position, please let them pass and don't mess up their race.
