Rd 2 Sebring Post Race Review and Results

Post by GTDon2 on Sun Jan 13, 2019 1:09 pm

Truly exciting 2nd round action at Sebring!  The racing was mostly very clean with only 1 warning penalty being issued to GTDon (what??) for contact with one of the ST drivers as he was passing.  Apparently, he thought he was clear but, not by enough.  The resulting contact did not knock either driver off the track but such contact is not what the race officials want to see.

But again, the racing was void of infractions as drivers were respectful, clean, and driving within the lines as they should.  This isn't to suggest that there weren't moments of racing contact or incidents, however.  After the mandatory on lap 18 it was Team Penske's Corvettes that emerged as the leaders with team Latte Guy Racing's Shelby GT350 R not far behind in 2nd. Team V8G also in Shelby GT350 Rs were in 3rd.  With 8 laps to go to the finish ThatGuyRacing would catch and pass FRB Incognito with 2 laps left to catch the leader GTDon.  There was some hope as GTDon would be held up by ST traffic but it was not meant to be as GTDon cruised to the finish line with a mere 1sec lead after 26laps of racing.  With a 1/3 finish, Team Penske took the win over the 2/4 finish of team Latte Guy Racing.

GS Pole position bonus point goes to Team Penske's Corvette with a quick last lap push of 2:07.563 with GTDon at the wheel.  For ST it was KC Racings VW Golf R with a 2:23.826 driven by x Cloud Kicker.

Fastest clean race lap bonus went to ThatGuyRacing with a  2:08.203 a mere 0.055sec over GTDon.  In ST it was Kevin in the VW Golf R with a 2:22.143 which also established the track lap record for ST and another bonus point.

The class track lap record was broken several times during the week for GS, as V8G ChevyPower and GTDon2 had an ongoing back and forth battle all week.  In the end, GTDon laid down the fastest lap at Sebring with a ripped 2:07.289 vs ChevyPower's 2:07.308.

Pole Bonus point:
GTDon2
x Cloud Kicker

Fastest clean lap bonus point:
ThatGuyRacing
JDM Kevin72

Track record bonus point:
GTDon2
JDM Kevin72

As you can see below for GS, only V8GChevyPower's rating has changed enough to push him into a new build level from 2000 to 1900 level for Homestead.  Also notice that the computer predicted the correct or nearly correct finishing position for half the field.  That is, margins of difference so small that no points were given or taken.

I forgot to mention that there were 2 teams that mistakenly pitted on the wrong mandatory lap which automatically forces them to the back.  This is not a penalty strike against them but more of a self-imposed brain fart penalty. lol  Team KC Racing used last season lap 15 as their mandatory pit instead of this season 18th.  And team BP Energy pitted 1 lap early on lap 17 instead of 18.

Mid season BoP

Post by GTDon2 on Sun Jan 13, 2019 2:26 pm

As we have mentioned before and done in the past, we will be slightly enhancing the performance of cars that we feel are not quite at the same level as the leading cars.  We did this with the Audi and Porsche last season, and we will very likely do this for the Nissan, Lambo, and possibly Ferrari this season.

We never bring cars down but prefer to bring cars up to the level of the leading cars.  This will be small improvements to the builds and not hp increases.  The goal is to create greater car equality through a better driving car and not through power so don't get too excited.  Doing so will add more pressure to the front runners and keep the cars closer together on the track.

I will post the BoP correction later today so that you can take on Homestead as soon as possible.

Okay, all set after a little testing.  These aren't major improvements mind you but improvements nonetheless which can only help your teams cause.

Lamborghini Huracan gets to add lightest wheels which lowers the weight ups the acceleration and helps the handling.  Brings the new P.I. up to S776 and the weight down to 3,150lbs.

Nissan Nismo GT-R gets to remove the race roll cage which reduces the weight increasing the acceleration, but at the expense of some handling.  Even so, the P.I. rises to S787 and the weight goes down to 3,001lbs

Ferrari 458 gets to add STREET weight reduction which helps it accelerate and handle better, but mostly helps it to brake a lot better. P.I. goes up to S770 and weight down to 3,244lbs, a hefty drop of 78lbs!

These minor improvements should help a lot this early in the season so that you guys can gain back some lost points.  I do not anticipate any further BoP for GS class.  I hope this makes everyone's day!  And points leaders, you better get serious because these freshened up cars are not going to be so easy to get past or away from.

Good luck guys!

Not the ST Class Ford Mustang BOSS 302 though. Smile

I ran a practice lap PB of 1:34.542 on Homestead Road today in A Class Rivals in my '69 Mustang.
